Putting this nursery together was really a labor of love. In true #secondkidprobs fashion, I actually decorated this nursery for our first baby girl. As soon as we found out we were having another girl, our two year old got upgraded to a Big Girl Room and this room stayed almost exactly the same for the new baby. I was so happy to be having another girl because I definitely wasn’t ready to part with this room yet. It’s so sweet and calming, I love everything about it. I am also having so much fun putting Harlow’s new Big Girl Room together so that post should be up in a couple weeks!
This room is small so I knew I wanted to keep it as light and bright as possible. The wall color is Behr’s Cozy Cottage and it’s the perfect bright and warm beige with a hint of yellow. We got the crib and mattress second hand from a family member for almost nothing. This sweet white hook rack was a HomeGoods find that holds all types of baby adorableness. Gah, the tiny baby swimsuits get me every time!
With the room being small, I knew I would have to be creative when planning space and storage. To save floor space, we skipped the changing table and opted for a changing pad on top the dresser. The dresser was an old hand me down I painted white with Americana Decor Chalk Paint and added new drawer pulls to. I love this framed chicken wire I also found from HomeGoods. It’s perfect for hanging sweet keepsakes like my grandmother’s hanky and baby hair bows. I found these crown hooks at a boutique called Tiara Day in downtown Frederick. If you are local, you have to check them out!
I knew the dresser was going to the be the only counter space in the room and the changing pad was going to take up two thirds of the it so I needed to maximize the space that was left. I found this three tier wire stand from HomeGoods in black and spray painted it white. It is perfect for holding baby shoes, socks and hats. The crib skirt also hides storage under the crib. I keep our stash of diapers and wipes under there along with keepsakes in under bed storage bags.
My dear friend, Hannah gifted me with this All Because Two People Fell In Love sign and it is truly one of my favorite pieces in the room.
I really wanted a more streamline looking rocker but they all ended up being too bulky for the space. I opted for a traditional glider and ottoman because it had the smallest foot print and took up the least amount of space. It’s actually super comfy and perfect for late night rocking and nursing. And my husband actually made this little stool in high school wood shop class. I just painted it with the same paint as the dresser.
Almost three years since we brought our first little girl home to this room and I still love everything about this room. If you know me or have ever been to my house, you know at the rate I like to change things, three years of still loving a space is pretty much a record, haha!
