DIY Play Snow

I don’t know about you guys but here in Maryland we have had some super cold and windy days but very little actual snow! I don’t care what anyone says, if it’s going to be super cold out, at least give me something pretty to look at! AND something for the kids to play with! Please tell me I’m not the only one that feels like this!

I wanted to share a fun activity the kids loved around Christmas and it was time to bring back! Play snow! What’s not to love? Playing with some fluffy, white stuff in the comfort of your own (heated) home! This activity gets double points because it is super easy to whip up (only TWO ingredients) and super cheap to make!

-2 cups baking soda
-1/2 cup conditioner

I just grabbed some conditioner for $1 at Dollar Tree. Make sure your conditioner is white to keep your “snow” looking as authentic as possible. Mix it up in a bowl and your “snow” is ready to play. This time around I doubled the recipe (more for each kid to play with), dumped it into a large clear baking dish and added some bath toys for them to play with. I’ll be honest, this can get a little messy. We found it’s easiest for us just to play with this right on the kitchen floor (you could easily put a sheet down) + covering the kids’ clothes with trash bag smocks is an easy option, too.

For clean up, the “snow” actually sweeps up really well.  Then I just ran my wet swiffer over the area to get up the left over slickness from the conditioner. Bonus- if you put your “snow” in an air right container it will still be good to play with the next day! Your kids will love this, I promise! Give it a try and let me know how it goes! What are you guys doing to keep the winter time blues away?
